Since I was using a Samsung Galaxy, I used this link to download the usb driver from the OFFICIAL Samsung site. What worked for me was googling Samsung Galaxy Tab USB driver and downloading and running the application that got my device recognized when I did adb devices. So the methods mentioned above didn't work for me.
